I Hired A Painter... Now What?

So you've picked out the rooms you want to paint, picked your colors, sheens, and hired a painter.. now you might be wondering.. what can I do to prepare?

Here at Granite State Painters complete client satisfaction is our top priority. We work collaboratively to provide clients with a product and experience that exceeds their expectations, including making it easy on our customers from the first point of contact all the way through to the end of the project.

However, there are a few things that you, as the customer, can do to assist in making the project go smoothly. Depending on what the scope of your project entails, we've created a list of things that you may be able to take care of before the painters arrive.

  • Remove pictures from walls

If walls are to be painted, make sure that you remove anything that is hanging

  • Remove table lamps

Remove lamps from tables that may need to be moved or protected during the painting

  • Remove small accessories from tables, shelving, and mantel

Make sure all tables, shelving, and mantels are cleared so they can be protected with drop cloths or plastic

  • Remove clothing and all contents from closets

If closets are going to be painted, remove all contents

  • Remove contents of bookshelves

Remove all contents of bookshelves that may need to be moved or protected

  • Remove dishes from top of china cabinet

Remove all contents from the top of china cabinets that may need to be protected

  • Remove contents of kitchen cabinets if they are to be refinished

Empty all cabinets if they are to be refinished and put dishes somewhere safe

  • Grandfather clocks should be secured or removed from the area

Most retail/home improvement stores sell furniture safety brackets to ensure that your grandfather clock does not fall or get damaged while the painters are there - alternatively, you can move it to a different room

  • Remove towels, rugs, and accessories from bath/powder rooms

For bathroom painting, ensure everything is removed from counters, floors, and hanging

  • Take down curtains and draperies

Remove all curtains and draperies in areas that are to be painted

  • Computers, stereo equipment, phones, and all electronic equipment should be unplugged from the wall

Unplug all electronics and remove what you can from the area

  • Alarm systems should be disabled

Alarm systems should be disabled or codes should be given to the painters

  • Make any necessary arrangements for pets

While we do love pets, make necessary arrangements for them while the painters take up their space so no animals get nervous, hurt, etc.

We can't speak for all painters, at Granite Sate Painters, we take care of moving heavy furniture for you. You will not need to worry about couches, chairs, coffee tables, dining room tables, etc. Our crew will move and arrange the furniture in a way for us to work around it efficiently. Once the project is completed to your satisfaction, each room will be put back together to the homeowners preference.
