Cabinet Refinishing with Granite State Painters

Time for an update? The kitchen is typically the most expensive room in your house to renovate and the cabinets are an essential part of a kitchen upgrade. It's usually the first thing people notice and picking out new cabinetry can be stressful and costly! The good news: you have options!

When deciding which option is best for you, it's important to note that professionals will usually pick one of three options for your cabinets; refinishing, refacing, or replacing.

What is Cabinet Refinishing?

If you choose to refinish your cabinets, all of your existing cabinetry will stay. This is a good option if you like your cabinet style, kitchen/bathroom layout, and if your cabinets are in good shape structurally.

Our crew will come in, remove all the doors and drawers and take them back to our shop to be thoroughly cleaned/de-greased, sanded, primed, and painted. We use high-end products that make for a new look that will last.

We will then mask off your kitchen/bathroom completely, we use air scrubbers to control the dust, and we will clean, sand, prime, and spray all of your cabinet boxes. Once the doors and drawers are dried, they will be returned and re-installed. All of your existing hardware will be re-installed onto the doors and drawers or we will install newly purchased hardware if you so choose.

Out of the three options for cabinet makeovers, refinishing will cost you the least. Refinishing cabinets typically runs at about two-thirds the cost of refacing and half the cost compared to replacing!

What is Cabinet Refacing?

Cabinet refacing/resurfacing is when all of your existing cabinet frames are resurfaced with laminate or wood veneer. You will then need to replace all cabinet doors and drawers. You may also choose to replace cabinet hardware, side panels, moldings, etc. This is a good option for you if you want a new style of cabinets or if your current cabinets are not structurally sound.

What is Cabinet Replacing?

Cabinet replacing is exactly what it sounds like. All of your existing framework, door, drawers, etc. will be removed and replaced with brand new cabinetry. This is a good option if you want to change your kitchen layout or if you're current cabinetry is not in good shape. Replacing cabinetry is a huge project that can eat up your budget quickly, typically costing almost double of cabinet refinishing and about 20% more than refacing.
